Science
At Manor Park First School we recognise the importance of Science in every aspect of daily life. The Scientific area of learning is concerned with increasing pupils’ knowledge and understanding of our world, and with developing skills associated with Science as a process of enquiry. It will develop the innate curiosity of the child, encourage respect for living organisms and the physical environment and develop a variety of skills that can be utilised across their learning. Through our curriculum topics, we aim to provide pupils with the time to practise what they have previously learned so that they can build on it, providing depth and breadth to grow as scientists and develop their disciplinary knowledge alongside substantive knowledge.
At Manor Park we aim to develop children that:
-have the ability to think independently and raise questions about the world.
-have a sense of wonder about the world and a passion for Science and its application in past, present and future technologies.
-have the ability and confidence to undertake practical work in a variety of contexts. They are able to plan and carry out scientific investigation safely.
-have high levels of originality and imagination the application of skills. They want to change the world with their inventions and discoveries.
-can use their findings to communicate their data using tables and graphs. They use their data to answer and raise further questions.
-explore ways they can protect and improve their environment.
